We’re here with our first guide, about how to get licensed as a security guard in the state of California. By now you probably know already that in order to legally work as a security guard in the United States, you have to carry a state-certified security guard license. In the State of California, a license is commonly known as a guard card. This changes little to the license requirements though, as they are quite the same as in other states throughout the USA.

For starters, applicants have to complete 40 hours of security guard training in order to be prepared for the job. The 40 hours are divided into 3 modules, each of them having to be completed at different times. We would like to refer you to security guard center, where the California security guard training procedure and modules are already explained in great detail.

Next in the line is to have your fingerprints scanned and submitted. However, the Californian licensing bureau does no longer accept the traditional ink fingerprint cards. In order to successfully apply for a guard card, candidates must have their fingerprints recorded and submitted to the FBI in a digital format. This can be done at a facility that offers live scan services.

The fastest way of submitting your application is online. You will have to create an account at the department of consumer affairs website, where you can submit the application online and follow the actual process using your account. There’s no need of a printer or scanner, as the form can be filled in on your computer.

In case there should be updates to the California licensing procedure, we’ll be the first to let you know!

Have you made the decision to start a career in the Colorado security guard industry? Prior to becoming employed, you will have to obtain your Colorado security guard license, which is the only document that enables you to legally work as a guard in the state of Colorado. But unlike in most states of America, licensing is regulated and overseen on a city-by-city level rather than a state-wide level. This means that Colorado State does not license security guards and in order to obtain your license, you will have to check with your city’s clerk office what the requirements and conditions are. I found a great guide on Security Guard Center where a number of general licensing requirements that most cities have in common are outlined for us. You can visit the guide at Colorado Security Guard License.
